Canyoning Spots in Ardèche

Jumping, natural slides, abseiling… A half or full day of canyoning in the Ardèche is always full of thrills, but it’s also, and above all, a fun activity in the heart of an exceptional natural environment!

We have selected for you the most beautiful canyons near the campsite, in the Ardèche.

1. Chassezac Canyon

Chassezac is the ideal place for canyoning. It offers everything one can expect from a canyon. It’s no wonder it’s nicknamed the pearl of the Cévennes or the Devil’s Lair. You’ll find a course littered with slides, rappels, jumps, and swimming.

The Chassezac canyon route is very diverse. It’s not mandatory to have experience for canyoning in Chassezac, but good physical condition is highly recommended, and above all, mental preparedness is required, as the course can last up to 6 hours, and some jumps exceed 10 meters.

2. Pissevieille Canyon

Only the lucky ones will be able to enjoy the Pissevielle canyon. Indeed, for access to this gorge, the weather must be optimal to avoid dangerous conditions.

But if the opportunity arises, it’s one of the routes to absolutely do for thrill-seekers. It’s one of the most intense routes in all of Ardèche. Pissevieille’s main attraction is its breathtaking final rappel of 90 meters in height.

3. Besorgues Canyon

The Besorgues canyon is located in the heart of the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Nature Park. This route is ideal for beginners and lasts about 2 hours. The route is very accessible, and many families pass through it to discover canyoning. Despite being fairly simple, the course offers magnificent landscapes to discover.

4. Borne Canyon

The Borne canyon offers a long, wild, and very aquatic route in the Ardèche mountains. It offers a very diversified route with rappels, diving into a siphon, and jumps of up to 8 meters in height.

It’s ideal for beginners to determine their limits because none of the obstacles are mandatory. This allows time to discover the activity, test oneself, and gain confidence.

5. Pas-de-Fer Canyon

The Pas-de-Fer canyon is one of the best places for canyoning for those who appreciate jumps and rappels, as the route is very vertical. Moreover, it will surprise you with its picturesque landscapes throughout the hike.

During your journey, you’ll have the opportunity to discover the exceptional Ray Pic waterfall. Enjoy it because normally you can only see it from a viewpoint.

So, are you ready to take the plunge?
